The Pak-Ou Buddha Caves
set into a sheer limestone cliff facing the Mekong north of Luang Prabang at the confluence of the Nam- Ou. Venerated since pre-Buddhist times as the home of river spirits, these caves have been used for centuries as repository for old or damaged Buddha images.
