From the Indrani temple to Rani Pokhari
From the Indrani temple on the oriental bank of the Vishnumati river, a slight uphill road leads to Chetrapati square, a busy roundabout, a short walk and we arrive at Thahiti Tole with a caitya in the centre and on the northern side Nateshwar temple (Shiva as god of dance). Leaving the square from the northeast angle we soon find the Musya Bahal Buddhist monastery with two stone lions before the entrance. The street continues eastwards to Chusya Bahal a second Buddhist monastery.
Little further there is the intersection with the busy Kantipath that brings us to Rani Pokhari (the pond of the queen) with a small temple of Shiva. On the other side of the road the Durbar School, the first school of Nepal. We cross Kantipath on the pedestrian bridge on the southern side of the Rani Pokhari and continue penetrating in the old part of the city in direction of Asan Tole.

To Indra Chowk and Durbar Square
This is the main street of old Kathmandu and the most interesting that brings us to Durbar Square. This was once and the starting point of the itinerary to Tibet. In Asan Tole, a busy market place, rises the three tiers pagoda temple of Annapurna, goddess of the abundance. Continuing in the direction of Kel Tole on the left, crushed among other buildings, we find the polygonal Krishna temple with elaborate wood carvings, its ground floor is completely occupied by shops; the three roofs Lunchun Lunbun Ajima with wooden carved erotic images. On Kel Tole we visit the Seto (white) Machhendranath temple, with a statue of Buddha on a column before the entrance. In the courtyard there are numerous altars, caityas and bronze statues on columns among which a figure with Western aspect.
Indra Chowk, a major crossroads, with the Akash Bhairab temple, four metal lions lean out from the balcony, the minuscule niche of Ganesh in brass, the Mahadev temple and Shiva temple full of merchants.
The crowded road known as Makhan Tole finally brings us to the northern entrance of Durbar Square, in correspondence of a statue of Garuda and the Den Deval temple.

From Kel Tole, heading East, we find Itum Bahal, with various caityas and a white stupa in the courtyard and the ancient Kichandra Bahal (1381) (closed) in front a caitya with a bodhi tree grown on it.
Continuing East, at the following intersection we find the temple of Nara Devi, known also as the temple of Seto Kali (white Kali). Nearby, hidden in a labyrinth of small alleys we find the three roofed Narsingha temple (we were led there by small boys). Back on the major road the famous wooden window called deshay madu.

From Nara Devi temple we headed to Bangemudha, to see the wooden log with thousands of coins nailed in it by people asking remedy for the teeth ache. In the Bangemudha square we find a small sanctuary with the beautiful stone relief of Saraswati playing the lute, and framed by tiles a 60 cm high statue of Buddha (v c) similar to the one of Pashupatinath complex.
Further north the road brings us to Nag Bahal a Buddhist courtyard of some interest, and after few meters to the Kathesimbhu (1650 AD) a copy of the great complex of Swayambhunath, various caityas and sculptures are disseminated around in the courtyard.
