At a height of 3,700 masl Tambomachay in Inca times was a sacred site used for the worship of the water deity, at the same time it was one of the pillars of the defence system of the Valley of Cusco. It is also known as "Baño de la Ñusta" (Bath of the Ñusta) or "Balneario Inca" (Incan Watering Place) very similar to that of Ollantaytambo. This ruin is another fine example of Inca architecture, is made up of four walls or graded terraces embedded to the hill, made of irregular carved-stone polyhedrons, brilliantly assembled, and which make up three parallel cultivation terraces. Below a thick wall decorated with four large trapezoidal niches, two aqueducts, artistically carved on the rock, keep a constant flow of clean water during the whole year from the very same pool used by the Incas in their times. This pool had to be a liturgical spring, where the Inca worshiped the water; the worship of water was one of the pillars of the Andean conception of the world. Tambomachay is considered one of the Indian temples of the first Antisuyo ceque, the system of imaginary grid lines that irradiated out to sacred spots or indicated the time and place of the ceremonies.
The sound of the water, the quietness and peace of the environment, as well as the closed and secluded form of the space in which it was constructed, give Tambomachay a peculiar atmosphere.

Puca Pucara
The name means fortress or red watchtower. It is located nearby Tambomachay above a rocky outcrop in the Sacsayhuamán plain, in a strategic location at an elevation that makes it possible to control the whole surrounding territory and the road to Antisuyo, the reign of the forest. 
It likely was a military building, however its presence along an important road may also indicate that it could have been a wayside inn, though its structure does not belong to the standard that characterizes those buildings along Inca trails. On this possibility, there is a version that says the Inca accommodated there the numerous members of his court each time he decided to visit Tambomachay baths.
On each side three walls of irregular plant set three levels of overlapping terraces. The first wall carefully winds up through the mountainside avoiding all the prominent rocks; behind this external wall there are six rooms of different sizes arranged in such an irregular way so as not to touch the wall. Towards the west, accessed by a staircase there is a high trapezoidal square surrounded by buildings. A second wall surrounds the central elevation. Between this and the first wall, there are wide cultivation terraces that spread all over towards the south and the east. Behind the second wall, there are three rooms with an atypical trapezoidal plant for the Inca architecture. The third wall that surrounds the top has no traces left of its buildings.
