In a desolate valley today on the Silk Route near the Iranian frontier situated Ishak Pasha Palace (Ishak Pasa Sarayi) stands on a high rocky platform of strategic importance wrapped with legends that add mystery to its magnificent location. Built on the 18th century with its mixture of Ottoman, Persian and Seljuk architectural styles the palace is a magnificent piece of architecture.

The palace gate original gold-plated doors, masterpieces of Kurdish workmanship, are on display at St. Petersburg's Hermitage Museum. Inside there are two courtyards behind which stood the main palace buildings, the mosque and a mausoleum. The mausoleum typical examples of traditional Seljuk architecture is built in the style of the "kümbet" (cupola). The palace section has two storeys. All of its 366 rooms are arranged on these two floors. walls are decorated with couplets and verses from the Koran in the decorative examples of the Turkish calligraphic art.
